Everything Is Temporary

I read the other day that as you age you realize everything is temporary.

I’ve felt that recently.

I hear it in the stories I tell my kids.

“There was a beautiful cornfield there once…before they built all those houses.”

“That place used to be a bar where we watched the Steelers every Sunday.”

“A movie theatre was there at one time…”

You get the idea.

Now that I think back, there are about six places where I worked where even the building is gone.

All of this is another reason to slow down and savor what is now.

Look around your life, what are the things you love and enjoy now?

I leave you with a quote used in the movie ‘Dead Poets Society’:

Gather ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old time is still a-flying,
And this same flower that smiles today,
To-morrow will be dying.

~ Robert Herrick
